Case Study 6

As a manufacturer of printing inks, the client handles a number of solvents on site to clean the equipment between products and needs to ensure that there is no contamination. It must then manage this waste product in the most environmentally-friendly manner.

The contaminated solvents from the ink manufacturing processes are pumped into a tank and on a regular basis Rutpen collects 30,000L loads. In its solvent recycling facility, Rutpen then distills and separates the product, analyses it for water content, colour and chemical balance and returns the clean solvent to the client, ready to be used again in the process. The waste product from this process then goes to heat recovery and so all elements are efficiently recycled.

This process provides the client with huge cost savings versus continuously purchasing virgin product and provides an environmental resolution by solving the issue of waste disposal of contaminated product.
